Man at Sea is the moniker of singer-songwriter and composer David Hewson. Described as a cross between Rufus Wainwright, Neil Hannon and Thom Yorke, his songs combine sparse arrangements with soaring melodies, shot through with lyrics that have an existential thread and often a dark undertone, dealing with themes of identity and the modern-day loss of spirituality.
Growing up by the sea in a small village on the coast of the Isle of Wight, he began writing songs at an early age and by sixteen was distributing homemade DIY CD’s recorded in the back room of his garage on a zoom 8-track recorder borrowed from school.
