About HEKA

I’m Anton Larkin. I’m the founder, front man, bass player and composer of the band HEKA. HEKA are an emerging Bristol based band best described as ‘Grave Wave’, blending traditional indie rock with mysterious swirling synths, and intoxicating vocal melodies.

HEKA began in 2019 as a writing collaboration between myself and guitarist Ben Halliday, who I met at BIMM Bristol. The music emerged from our shared love for film soundscapes, animation, and comics. From this the sound of HEKA was born — gothic guitars, disco beats, and cinematic synths. We self-released our first single Fake Smile in 2020, along with a video by emerging animator Tom Sharp which began to tell the story of ‘planet HEKA’. This debut track amassed 20,000 views on YouTube within its first week.

HEKA strives to become more than just a band, but a fictional world in itself. Our three subsequent single releases continued to explore the world of HEKA visually and aurally, with videos released in collaboration with local emerging artists Twinsen, Adam Freethy and David Torre. In March 2022 we released the comic HEKA #1 and distributed it as part our sold-out debut headline show at Crofters Rights, Bristol. On Halloween last year we released The Girl, which was made track of the week by Adam Crowther’s show on BBC Bristol. HEKA are backed by BBC Introducing and BBC Bristol as ‘ones to watch’.
